Support & training

The money side of things, without being talked down to.

Everything here is free, and none of it asks whether you have applied for assistance. Use a calculator for five minutes on your phone, work through a course at your own pace, or come and sit in a class with someone who has been where you are.

Come to a class

Small groups, online, in the evening or over lunch. A course you can pause is useful. An hour with someone who has been through it is a different thing entirely, and it is the part people tell us mattered.

Tools that answer a question in five minutes

The first two are ours, built into this page — no account, nothing to download, and nothing you type is sent to us or saved anywhere. The two below them open a guided session from our learning center.

Where does the month go?

Put in what comes in, then what goes out. The jar fills with whatever is left. If it stays empty, that is worth knowing too — and it is the most common answer we hear.

Round up rather than down. The month that goes wrong is never the month you planned for, and a budget that only works perfectly is not a budget.

Change any number and the jar moves with it.

What does a little each week add up to?

Pick an amount you could set aside on a Friday and then leave alone. Every coin in the jar is one week. Nothing clever happens here — that is rather the point.

Which debt do you pay first?

List what you owe and what each one charges you. Put every spare dollar against the highest rate and the whole thing clears sooner, for less. This works out how much sooner, and how much less.

A rough plan, not a promise — fees, minimum payments and a missed month all change it. A coach will sit down and do the real version with you.

Insurance, gas, tires and the repair you have not had yet are all on top of this number. A useful rule: whatever the payment is, set aside about a third of it again each month to keep the car running.

Stretching the loan longer buys a better car and a worse deal.

Dealer financing is often the most expensive money in the room. A credit union will usually quote you a rate before you go shopping, for free.

Three courses, and the whole library behind them

These open in our learning center, a site we run with Banzai and First United Bank. It looks a little different because it is a different system — but it is ours, it is free, and nothing you do there is shared with us.
