Apply for support

Tell us what is due, and by when.

That is most of what we need. There is no essay, no scoring, and nothing you have to prove about your character. A person reads every application and you will hear back either way.

Before you start

Three things worth having ready.

None of them are hard to find, and if you cannot get one right now, send the application anyway and say so.

01
The exact amount

What is owed, to the dollar, and the date it is due.

02
Who it is owed to

The landlord, utility, childcare center or vendor — we pay them, not you.

03
A copy of the bill

A photo on your phone is fine. You can send it after you apply.

The application

Let’s begin.

Can we help? A quick check

These are the basics the board looks for. If one does not fit your situation, apply anyway and tell us why — the board can look at anything once.

Your story, your choice

Some mothers are happy for us to share how the jar helped; many are not. Either is completely fine and it has no effect on your application.

Optional, and only if you chose Public. A clear photo of you (and your children, if you like). This is separate from your documents and is only used with your permission.

A driver’s license, state ID or passport. We check it against your application and do not keep a copy with your file.
Private · checked, then removed
We will confirm we have it, then come back to you within a few days. Nothing you write here is shared outside the board.
Your application is in. A member of our team will read it personally and be in touch using the contact details you gave us. If your bill is due in the next few days, email amber@thecoinjar.org so we can look sooner.

If you are hesitating

Asking is not the same as owing.

A lot of the mothers we speak to almost did not write. They were worried it would look like failure, or that someone else needed it more, or that they would be judged for how they got here.

We are not interested in any of that. We are interested in whether a specific bill can be paid before a specific date, and whether paying it keeps your household steady. That is the whole test.

Your name is never published, in any material, ever.
Applying once does not stop you applying again later.
