Asking for support

Who can apply?

Single mothers with at least one child under 18 who live in the DFW Metroplex or Nashville, Tennessee. You do not need to know anyone at The Coin Jar to apply.

What kind of help is available?

Emergency help with a specific bill, our Six-Month Financial Stability Program, the Dignity Box Program, and free career, mentorship and financial literacy support. See our Programs page for details.

Do you give cash?

For emergency help with a bill, we pay the landlord, utility, childcare center or vendor directly on your behalf. When a mom completes our Six-Month Financial Stability Program, we also fund an emergency savings account for her with $1,000.

How long does it take to hear back?

Usually a few days. A person reads every application, and you will hear back either way.

What is the difference between applying and requesting a Dignity Box?

The application is for help with a bill or the Financial Stability Program. A Dignity Box request is for immediate, practical support during a crisis or major transition — it has its own short form, followed by a brief interview.

Will my name or story be shared?

Only if you give us permission to share your story. Your application asks how you would like your profile handled, and “Private” is always an option. We never publish a name without permission.

Can I apply more than once?

Yes, a mom can apply more than once. If she has received funding from us before, her application may need to wait until funding is available, because first-time applicants take priority.

If you want to give or get involved

Giving, partnering and volunteering

Where does my gift go?

Gifts are pooled in the jar and released against verified needs — rent, utilities, childcare and the unexpected expenses that knock a family off course — always paid to the provider.

Can I give monthly or one time?

Both. Monthly gifts are the ones we can plan around, but a one-time gift lands in exactly the same jar. Donate here.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

The Coin Jar is a nonprofit organization. Please contact us for a giving receipt or with questions about your gift.

How can my business get involved?

See our sponsorship tiers, or become a partner. If you offer a service, workshop or referral relationship, partner with us.

Can I volunteer?

Yes — at events, as a mentor, packing Dignity Boxes or with professional skills. Volunteer with us.

You have read the why. Here is the how.

A monthly gift is the one we can plan around. If you are a mother who needs help, the application takes a few minutes and a person reads every one.
